Simon Cooke, MSI Reproductive Choices’ CEO, responds to the outcome of the US presidential election:

“As news broke that Donald Trump was set to retake the White House, MSI’s 9,000 team members around the world opened the doors of our clinics, picked up the phones at our contact centres and set off with backpacks laden with essential medical supplies to reach women wherever they are – just like they do every day.

The outcome of the US election does nothing to change MSI’s mission. It only strengthens our resolve.

The return of the man responsible for the overturning of Roe v Wade means women in America are now facing the bleak prospect of their reproductive rights being curtailed still further. As a global abortion provider, we know the repercussions will also be felt far beyond the country’s borders, with women and girls in the poorest communities paying the harshest price.

But any attacks will be met with powerful resistance. Alongside our partners, donors and supporters, we’ve worked for nearly 50 years to deliver reproductive choice to people where they need it most, from the world’s most remote communities to the frontline of humanitarian emergencies.

We call on everyone who cares about gender equality and reproductive freedom to join us in holding the line. MSI has never and will never sign the Global Gag Rule. And we will not stop until everyone can access a contraceptive method of their choice, every abortion is safe, and everyone, everywhere has the right to choose.”

We won’t back down

Trump’s policies will severely impact sexual and reproductive rights across the globe — but we will fight back.

Press Release on US election

‘The world’s poorest women and girls will pay the price’ if Global Gag Rule is reimposed.
