MSI is here to support women with their health and choices, from menstruation to menopause.

MSI’s centres and maternity hospitals offer a range of reproductive healthcare services supporting women throughout their lives, as their bodies and needs change.

Alongside our work to support reproductive choice with contraception and abortion care, MSI is a holistic women’s healthcare provider, offering a range of services throughout the reproductive life.

    Women’s healthcare

Whether looking for a sexual health check-up, a safe space to deliver a pregnancy, or support with managing the side effects of the menopause, MSI is here for women.

To provide a snapshot of our services beyond contraception and abortion, in 2022, MSI Reproductive Choices supported:

    590k

Clients with our safe motherhood services, including antenatal and post-natal care, and deliveries

    615k

Clients with HIV and STI testing, consultation and treatment

    210k

Clients with cervical cancer screening and preventative therapy

Through our social business clinic network, some services are offered as private healthcare, funded by clients and health insurance schemes. This allows us to channel donor funding into expanding reproductive choice to marginalised communities and those without prior access to healthcare.

You can find out more about out social business clinic network in our annual report

    Respectful maternity care

When a woman comes into an MSI maternity centre, we want to ensure she has choice and autonomy in the care that she receives. That’s why our providers are trained to deliver respectful maternity care, supporting women in a way that maintains dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.

We know not every woman receives this level of support. In maternity care, too many women face what’s known as ‘obstetric violence’, which can include exams or procedures without consent, pressure into procedures such as caesareans, disrespectful treatment, or a lack of privacy during labour and birth. Negative birthing experiences deny women their bodily autonomy and that’s why MSI is committed to changing this course.

We train our providers to avoid harmful practices, ensuring our clients are free of harm and mistreatment, and have informed choice and continuous support during prenatal care, labour, childbirth, and post-partum. Our Respectful Maternity Care training encourages medical providers to put themselves in clients’ shoes, to deliver high-quality and empathetic care to all.
