CHOICE WEEK: Reproductive choice for all

Home      Campaigns       Choice Week: Reproductive Choice for all

With reproductive choice, we can control our own futures. This Choice Week, join us to #ChooseChoice.

    What is Choice Week?

Choice Week runs from Monday 22 September – Sunday 28 September and is all about how choice can change the world.

September 26 is World Contraception Day and September 28 is International Safe Abortion Day. It’s a week to take action. It’s a moment to be bold.

World Contraception Day calls for everyone to have access to their choice of contraception. And International Safe Abortion Day campaigns for global abortion rights, so that no abortion is unsafe and everyone has the right to this essential healthcare.

Together, these days form Choice Week, reminding us of the power of reproductive choice, and we invite pro-choice people everywhere to #ChooseChoice on social media and beyond.

This year, MSI Reproductive Choices has a simple message: Reproductive choice is freedom. Yet millions of women worldwide can’t make this choice. It’s time to change that.

    What is reproductive choice?

Reproductive choice means the power to decide if or when to become pregnant. This means having access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, including contraception and abortion care.

A world of opportunities opens when women and girls have choice. Girls can finish school, young women can pursue a career, and mothers can have a break between pregnancies for their health and to support their families.

When pregnancy is a choice, a woman can have agency over her life, her health and her future. It doesn’t just change one life, it changes the world.

    Fight for choice

It’s been a long fight for the right to choose.

To have a say over our bodies, our families, our futures.

    That right is under threat.

Join us to defend our rights and choices.

Advocacy in action: MSI at the UN’s General Assembly

We’re at UNGA 2025 this week alongside world leaders and civil society to make sure abortion and reproductive choice is on the agenda.

Our ‘pillboard’ – in a prime New York City location near the UN headquarters – amplifies the transformative power of reproductive choice, reaching world leaders and global audiences during this pivotal moment for reproductive rights.

Pill blister pack with 21 circles in grid format, black text between reading: this choice is out of reach for millions of women all over the world.

Why we need to #ChooseChoice in a pivotal year for reproductive rights

This year, reproductive choice is under attack. In January 2025, the US government reinstated the ‘global gag rule,’ reducing access to life-saving reproductive healthcare.

We’re hearing from our teams that some countries in Africa no longer have enough contraceptive supplies to meet the demand of women and families, and more people are resorting to unsafe abortion methods. All while the US government plans to burn almost $10 million worth of contraception.

At the same time, an anti-choice and anti-rights movement is growing in the UK and across the world, threatening to roll back progress. These groups recently spent no less than £100 million on their tactics in the UK.

This week also marks the start of the annual ’40 days for life’ – six weeks of anti-choice groups holding round-the-clock protests outside abortion clinics. They’re harassing people seeking and providing abortion care.

The threat to reproductive rights is happening right now around the world. This is the moment to stand up, speak out and #ChooseChoice.
