MSI client, Srijana walks to the school she teaches in, within the Sindhuli district of Nepal.

In the mountains of Nepal, Tika, an MSI provider, treks to reach women in remote communities. There, she met Srijana, a mother of two who was struggling with a third pregnancy. Srijana told us what access to safe abortion care meant for her, at that time:

When I found out I was pregnant for the third time, I felt very anxious. I had already gone through two caesareans, and my health was weak. So, I decided to terminate the pregnancy.

Previously, my aunt went through an unsafe abortion. The backstreet provider told her to keep it secret, and she died on the way to the hospital. I was terrified the same might happen to me; all my family were worried.

Thankfully, MSI helped me. When I had the abortion, Tika, the provider, stayed awake all night, checking on me.

Now, I am teaching at a school. I wouldn’t have been able to work if I had a newborn. I’m able to focus on my children. To see and make them happy, healthy, and educated.

I would like to say thank you to the MSI Ladies and staff, and everyone who made this possible. I feel like I have a new life. I was almost gone, but they saved me.”

Srijana walks with her son, accompanied by the MSI Lady, Tika, who provided Srijana’s abortion.

Thanks to MSI’s supporters, Srijana could access safe, respectful abortion care when she needed it. With your help, more women like Srijana can make their safe choice.
