Responding to a new study showing that abortion bans in the US are restricting how miscarriages are treated, Beth Schlachter, MSI Reproductive Choices’ Senior Director of External Relations and Advocacy, said:

“This study confirms what healthcare providers have been warning for years: abortion bans make pregnancy more dangerous.

“Laws banning abortion and attempts to restrict access to mifepristone and misoprostol are denying people experiencing miscarriage the safest, most effective treatment options and forcing them to endure unnecessary risk, pain, and trauma.

“What happens in the US also has global consequences, emboldening attacks on reproductive rights and access to essential medicines around the world.

“Everyone deserves compassionate, evidence-based healthcare, yet access to essential reproductive care is increasingly determined by where someone lives. These restrictions will only deepen the suffering of people already experiencing the heartbreak of pregnancy loss.”
