MSI joined partners at Plan, UNFPA and the FCDO for a virtual Global Education Summit side event on Translating commitments to comprehensive sexuality education into action.

Unplanned teenage pregnancy continues to rob girls and young women of their education, with MSI’s analysis showing that up to four million girls in Sab-Saharan Africa are forced to drop out of school due to teenage pregnancy every year. To support more girls to stay in school, we need to ensure access to comprehensive sexuality education, including information on the adolescent reproductive healthcare services available. The Global Education Summit, organised by the UK government on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th July 2021, provides a landmark opportunity to define these links.

In recent years, there has been considerable momentum on improving access to and implementation of comprehensive sexuality education, both within schools and in out-of-school settings and across both development and humanitarian settings. However, whilst strong technical guidance exists, many countries face challenges when seeking to implement it.

On Monday 26th July, 2-3pm BST, MSI was pleased to join partners at Plan, UNFPA and the FCDO for a virtual Global Education Summit side event on delivering comprehensive sexuality education. The session launched a new tool that governments and others can use to ensure that their commitments to comprehensive sexuality education translate into tangible action and progress. By showcasing some of the strategies in the tool and how they have been used in different contexts, we seek to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and advance progress on successfully implement comprehensive sexuality education across the world.
