On Wednesday, the US Supreme court allowed a Texas law to go into effect banning abortion at six weeks - before many women even realise they are pregnant.
The new law also allows anyone—from an anti-choice family member to a neighbour with a grudge—to sue someone involved in an abortion and receive $10,000 or more in damages. The results will be dire.

Sarah Shaw, MSI Reproductive Choices’ Head of Advocacy comments:
“The new law banning abortion in Texas is cruel and deeply concerning. From our work around the world, we know that restricting access to abortion doesn’t reduce the number of procedures, it just makes them much less safe. At six weeks most people aren’t even aware they are pregnant, and this law will force many to give birth against their will or take matters into their own hands, particularly those who cannot afford to travel.
"We stand in solidarity with women in Texas. Access to safe abortion is a human right and in the face of an emboldened opposition, we’ll keep working towards a world where everyone has the right to choose.”
Support our work to achieve a world where choice is possible for everyone.
