Marie Stopes Ghana

MSI began providing contraception and safe abortion services in Ghana in 2007. Since then they have become one of the country’s most trusted providers, helping more than 200,000 women each year.

Marie Stopes Ghana operates in every single region of the country, delivering services and information to the country’s underserved communities in a number of different ways.

MSI in Ghana have been providing services since 2007, helping more than 150,000 women each year to choose when they have children.

Preventing unsafe abortion

MSI is working closely with the Government of Ghana to reduce unsafe abortion and ensure that more women are able to access the contraception that will allow them to take control of their futures.

The programme’s clinic network allows women to access safe abortion services, meaning fewer women are forced to risk the potentially devastating consequences of unsafe abortion. The clinics also act as training centres, increasing the skills of other healthcare providers.

Helping women in remote areas

There is still huge unmet need for contraception in Ghana. A large proportion of women still want to control the number of children that they have but are unable to get the contraception that will allow them to do that.

Marie Stopes Ghana’s rural outreach teams are playing a critical part in helping to meet this need. By providing a full range of contraception they are able to help women in remote areas to choose if and when they have children.
